Did you know that 2 very diverse musical cultures can have similarities as well as differences? Many element of the music
can be alike but can sound completely different. Two good examples are India's and Trinidad and Tobago's percussion instruments
and music. The Indian music I am looking at is Tabla music predominantly Tabla Tahmeel No. 1 by El-Dabh and Calypso for pans
by Cliff Alexis centered around the steel pan music from Trinidad and Tobago. Instruments that are on the web pages are the
one that are being analysed in the 2 pieces.

What makes them different?
Tabla Tahmeel No. 1 : The music is passed down orally and has been around for over 2000 years. Most of the percussion
music is play by hand and the drums are classifeid in the membranophone family. One Instrument can cover a wide range.
Calypso for pans: Steel pans are pitched instruments tuned chromatically and are in the Idiophone family. They are played
with sticks and have a whole orchestra to cover a wide range. Steel pans were invent in the 20th century.
Similarity: The main connection is they are both from the percussion family and they have many similar elements which
will be discussed on the other pages.
